| David Helton has been drawing as far back as he can remember. In the 1st grade, he drew Charlie Chipmunk out of The Weekly Reader for his classmates. "I was surprised to realize they couldn't draw! I thought everyone could!" Some people struggle to find their place in life but David always knew he would be an artist. Growing up, music and humor would become important influences. His love of different types of music has always been motivational and humor helped him with expressing ideas and drawings. His high school art teacher showed him different materials and techniques that would give him a head start in college. David graduated from Ringling School of Art in Sarasota, Florida and took his drawing teacher's advice to send his portfolio to American Greeting Cards in Cleveland, Ohio. He packed up his VW in Chattanooga, Tennessee and moved to Cleveland to begin work for American Greetings. "I thought getting $125 a week to draw cartoons was fantastic!" This first professional job was very influential in many ways.
